JOPLIN, MO.--- The Empire District Electric Company gives area residents a reason to garden. In recognition of Arbor Day, the company is providing free trees to the public. This is a way to emphasize the importance of trees throughout the community. Plus, these free events allow the company to give away a variety of trees that suit local growing conditions.

"We give away trees that are acclimated to this growing condition because so many times we'll go and purchase trees that aren't use to the climates here in Missouri, so these trees will have better results when they get home," said Robin McAlester, Empire Electric District.

Workers also emphasize the importance of planting the right tree in the right place, so the trees don't cause a problem with electric lines.
