QUAPAW, OK.--- More than a thousand residents in Baxter Springs and Quapaw are left wondering when their electric will be restored. Empire District Electric crews have been working since 6 pm Sunday night to restore the power. They expect to get power restored late Tuesday evening.

More than 200 electric poles were damaged leaving five substations without power. This substation is located in-between Quapaw and Baxter near the 3M plant. It serves both cities. Empire workers say at the height of the outage, more than 6,000 people were without power.

"Great progress today. We hope to have most of our customers back on by the end of the day tomorrow. That will be serviceable. If they had damage to their meter base or home, they may need to have repairs made by an electrician before they can be reconnected," said Julie Moss, Empire District Electric.

More than 200 Empire employees have been called in to restore the power.
