MIAMI, OK--- The heat today didn't stop local cub scouts from riding their bicycles.

Pack 54 in Miami held its first annual bicycle rodeo to begin the new year for cub scouts. Members from the American Veterans Motorcycle Club in Norman, Oklahoma taught the scouts about bike safety. And the Miami fire and police department went over fire and tornado safety procedures. Pack master John Landers says it takes a community to raise a child.

"If little Johnny is in trouble, they might call mom and dad. And, there won't be any bullying or him riding his bicycle on the wrong side of the street or getting into mischief. And, that's exactly what were trying to prevent." Said John Landers, Pack 54 Cub Master.

Landers says he hopes this event will help increase the number of cub scouts in Miami.
