NEOSHO, MO.--- Crowder College has been selected to compete in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. The challenge consists of 20 collegiate teams designing, building, and operating solar-powered houses. They must be cost effective, energy efficient, and attractive. Crowder also participated in the 2002 and 2005 decathlons. Students who are enrolled in the solar degree or certificate program will be able to participate this year. Crowder team members say they are ready for the challenge.

"So what we will have to do is design a house that we can test here on campus. Take it down, put it on a truck, ship it to Irvine, California. Rebuild it and then have it tested again there," said Russ Hopper, Executive Director of Maret at Crowder College.

The solar decathlon helps give an understanding of how to save money at home with clean energy solutions. The judging will take place in 2015.
