MISSOURI--- Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signs a bill allowing students as young as the first grade to receive training about firearms. Senate Bill 75 allows schools to teach the NRA's Eddie Eagle Gun Safe Program as well as seek money to fund it, but it doesn't mandate it.

The program encourages children not to approach a weapon if they see one, but to tell an adult. State Senator Dan Brown sponsored the bill and says the program is not about arming young school children, but informing them. Another portion of the bill mandates that teachers undergo active shooter training to learn how to keep their students safe in case of a school invasion.
