JOPLIN, MO.--- Counterfeit money is being passed around Joplin and police need your help to solve the case. Investigators say last weekend, several reports of counterfeit cash were made from around the city. Fake 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollar bills have be turned over to the police department.

So far, the $100 bills have been the most common ones turned in. While counterfeit money is a serious problem, investigators say because of poor quality, these were relatively easy to spot. They say there are ways the public can help keep fake money out of circulation.

"Most newer bills are going to have the security strip, they're going to have the holograms, things like that. Most of the time, you can just hold it up to the light and tell if there's no security strip, then it's probably not real," said Cpl. Chuck Niess, Joplin Police Department.

Investigators say they are working several leads. If you have any information, you're being asked to contact your local police agency.
