JOPLIN, MO.--- It's welcome news for 250 dogs and the Joplin Adoption and Resource Center. Mars Pet Care has been the largest donor to the humane society for the last 3 and a half years, providing over 5,000 pounds of dog food per month. The humane society was notified yesterday that Mars has stopped production and expects to be fully closed by November.

The shelter was looking at a loss of nearly $3,000 worth of dog food per month and already received their last shipment from Mars. Late this afternoon, good news came from animal food company, Blue Buffalo. Humane Society Shelter Manager Lysa Boston says, the company has offered to provide the same amount of food for the animals at the shelter. This will also mean no cutbacks to the resource center.
