PITTSURG, KS.--- Pittsburg School District Superintendent Destry Brown says the money would be used to help pay for insurance and utilities in the new building for the first year. Earlier this month, the Bicknell family donated $1 million for the purchase of a technical center for high school students in Crawford County. The tech center would be located in the Pittsburg Industrial Park at the building now being used by the Fort Scott Community College construction trades. Brown says the center is essential because local businesses are looking elsewhere to hire for specific trades.

"I don't think that we can change the economy of our area unless we improve the jobs skills and the training of the people who work here," said Destry Brown Pittsburg Schools Superintendent

The Crawford County commissioners said they will consider the request, but made no timetable to when a decision will be made.
