CARL JUNCTION, MO --- Local kids learned safety tips from first responders this morning in Carl Junction.

Building Blocks Daycare hosted a Community Fun and Safety Fair. Kids ages 1 to 12 learned about water, animal and home safety.  Local firefighters and policemen also met with the kids.

Owner of Building Blocks Daycare Rita Ogden said the goal of the event is to get kids familiar with the first responders who are trying to help them.

"What a child doesn't understand or not familiar with, they're scared of," Ogden said.   "So by letting them meet them on a good term, on a fun, fun place in a fun basis, they kinda takeaway that fear."
The event was also used to raise money for a $22,000 community storm shelter that will fit up to 70 people.  If you would like to donate, you can call 417-649-8000.
