NEVADA, MO.--- In their last council meeting, members approved the first reading of a bill that restricts closely-related employees from working for the city. This includes everyone from immediate family to extended family and in-laws. The city manager says if the measure is approved, if city employees are married to each other, one of them will have to resign within 30 days.

"Primarily because it takes a real strain on a small workforce likes ours when you have two individuals from two different departments or possibly the same department taking vacations at the same time or dealing with an illness or a family emergency at the same time," said JD Kehrman, Nevada City Manager.

He adds the federal government has laws about families working together to help avoid issues with closely related employees working together.
