Carthage Humane Society To Reopen

Ribbon Cutting Next Saturday

The Carthage Humane Society will hold an official ribbon cutting with the Carthage Chamber Of Commerce next Saturday, January the 20th.

CORRECTION: The Carthage Humane Society has not been closed for nearly a half a year.

The shelter is currently open and pets are ready to be adopted.

There will be food trucks, a puppy play-pin, and an unveiling of "Gussie's Kitty Haven" room where cats get to roam free and play throughout the day.

"Through a lot of labor from volunteers and staff we got together a playground for cats and we didn't know how they were going to take it, but oh my gosh they are having a blast. It is just, it's fun to watch," Carthage Humane Society Director, Deborah Bell.

Despite recent news that the Jasper County Board of Commissioners will not provide funding for the shelter, the shelter will still conduct operations as expected.

Bell says they've made changes to the shelter to improve the health of their animals and the quality of the rescue operations.
