CARTHAGE, MO.--- The Carthage Fire Department will be parking one of their trucks on the square for art walk. Kids have a chance to color and get a tour of the truck. They'll also go over safety tips if a fire should happen at their house. Firefighters say it's important to engage the kids at a young age so they build a relationship with them early.

"We actually see kids in Wal-Mart, we're seeing them in car wrecks, we're seeing them in other emergency incidents. They remember us, we're a friendly face. We take a little bit of that fear away from them," said Chris Thompson, Carthage Fire Chief.

The art walk starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. tonight on the Carthage square. A lucky child will be picked tonight to eat lunch with the firefighters at a future date.
