The Carthage Board of Education saw a change in school board members this evening.
Monday night's Carthage Board of Education meeting was special for one board member in particular. This was Michael Goolsby's final meeting as a member of the Board of Education.
"I'm a little bit melancholy, I've really enjoyed the opportunity to serve our kids of our district, but I'm excited. I'm leaving behind some great school board members and even more importantly great students, great faculty and staff,” says Michael Goolsby.
The school board recognized him with a plaque for the twelve years that he served the school district. Goolsby has been a part of big projects like the new high school athletic complex and has made great memories during his time on the board.
"Gosh there's so many. The graduations, getting to hand my son and daughter that was a big deal,” says Michael Goolsby.
Goolsby is being replaced Bill Lasley, who was elected into office April 3rd.
"Feel's great. Feel's humbling, and it's a real honor,” says Bill Lasley.
Monday was his first meeting and he's ready to serve his community.
"I am looking forward to working with the administration, with the board, with the teachers; we can all stand improvement,” says Bill Lasley.
While Goolsby isn't on the board anymore, he says this probably won't be the last time we hear from him.
"I'll continue to find ways to serve Carthage, just maybe not from the school board,” says Michael Goolsby.
