CARTHAGE, MO.--- Carthage area veterans are recognized by some of their biggest fans. A Veterans Day assembly was held at Mark Twain Elementary. More than two dozen veterans took the stage and were given a flag and a hug from their children and grandchildren. It's all in an effort to thank them for their years of service to this country. Many veterans say it makes them humble to get such love on this special day.

"We don't do it for the thank you. We don't do it because anyone owes us anything. We do it because it has to be done. To see appreciation makes it a little easier," said Keith Hurlbut, Veteran.

Veterans from World War II up to Afghanistan were represented at the assembly.
