Brad's Beat: Jorge Leyva's Studio Stone Carving Conference
By Brad Douglas
JOPLIN, MO.--- More than a dozens artists have traveled to Joplin to rock out. A stone carving conference is being held at the Jorge Leyva's Studio in Joplin. The artist carve out their design in the hard rock and then compare notes with their fellow artists. Organizers say artistes often work alone in their studios, but it's nice to be able to bounce off ideas with one another. Working with stone takes a bit more effort than working with clay or wood.
"You got to put some weight into it. Put some elbow grease into making the stone move, make it in the right spot," said Abraham Mohler, Traveled from St. Louis.
The artists will take their pieces back home to continue to work on them and then potentially sell it.
