Brad's Beat: Joplin Route 66 Chili Cup

JOPLIN, MO.--- Joplin is hosting the second annual Route 66 Chili Cup, which is the state competition. Jon Tupper from Joplin and Kevin Stovall from Lee Summit are friendly rivals. They're just two of 50 different cooks that will be at the competition. There are rules for the chili. You can't cook with beans, chopped onions or crackers and every cook has a different recipe. 

"Some guys start out with meatballs, some guys start out with browning their meat and putting it in a skillet. Some just put it in the pot. Some guys cook for three hours. I've seen some guys cook for 45 minutes and win a competition," said Jon Tupper, Chili Cook.

The competition will be held tomorrow at the Hogs and Hot Rods in Joplin. The event starts at 9 a.m. and the tasting starts at noon. It's located off of State Line Road and Route 66 right on the Missouri, Kansas border.
