Brad's Beat: Joplin Pumpkin Carver
By Brad Douglas
JOPLIN, MO.--- A Joplin man is turning pumpkins into works of art. Kevin Felton has been carving pumpkins for the last three years and has done a few dozen this year. He starts in late September and carves all the way up to Halloween. Felton carves regular pumpkins and wood pumpkins he finds at crafts stores. He also uses several tools to get the fine lines cut out.
"I use a tire plunge tool for fixing tires. That gets in the holes I have here, punch right through them. I also use a doctor's serrated edge knife," said Kevin Felton, Pumpkin Carver.
Felton also says he likes to cut the bottom of the pumpkin out instead of the top, so he can put the pumpkin on a candle.
