JOPLIN, MO.--- The 24th Annual Science Fair was held at Missouri Southern State University today. The students were from 15 different counties in Missouri and Kansas. Some of the projects studied a rare fungus that affected many after the May 2011 tornado, others studied the effects of warmer water on hurricanes. Organizers say many kids will spark an interest in science after they do these projects and go into it as a career.

"This is the future in science. That's where the jobs are going to be. Have to keep encouraging them to keep them coming," said Dr. Vickie Roettger, Director of Science Fair.

The winners of the Science Fair will advance to nationals in Phoenix, Arizona. They'll compete against 80 different countries.
