JOPLIN, MO.--- A Joplin man will now be able to get in and out of his house thanks to the generosity of others. Workers with the Independent Living Center of Joplin are building a new 50 foot wheel chair ramp for Sam Howard. He has Parkinson's Disease and is confined to his chair.

The Independent Living Center covers the majority of the costs for the construction and the home owner will pay a small fraction of it. Organizers say the hard work is worth it once they see the reactions from the clients.

"We've seen tears in peoples eyes because they're so grateful that we're the first ones that ever helped them," said Gary Willard, Independent Living Center.

The ramp should be completed on Wednesday.
