Brad's Beat Carthage Travel Rally

CARTHAGE, MO.--- This week marks National Tourism Week and it kicks off the summer travel season in the four states. The Carthage Convention and Visitors Bureau held a Travel Rally on the Carthage Courthouse steps.

Several area businesses participated and agreed that tourists make up a large portion of their business. Organizers say May kicks off several months of events that bring tourists to the area.

"Between our Precious Moments Collectors Reunion, all of our sporting events and Marian Days and our Maple Leaf Festival, we have tourism all through the year on Route 66 with our international travelers," said Wendi Douglas, Carthage CVB Executive Director.

In 2012, Jasper County generated $182 million in tourism sales.
