Brad's Beat Carthage Myth Disproved

CARTHAGE, MO.--- A century old Carthage myth has finally been disproved. George Terry has lived in Carthage most of his life and says most residents have heard that the city is safe from a tornado.

Legend has it that an ancient Native American blessed the land to protect it from a tornado. That myth was disproved last week when an F-1 tornado hit the town. Terry says the myth has been passed onto several generations of Carthage residents.

"A tornado could not hit Carthage because 2 rivers come together and I could rest easy. I always took it as gospel," said George Terry, Has Heard of Carthage Myth.

According to the Jasper County Records Department, Carthage was hit with a tornado in 1880.
