B.F. Goodrich Plant Demolition
By Felicia Lawrence
MIAMI, OK.--- Work crews have begun phase two of demolition by tearing down the south end of the plant. They are now faced with the task of separating and removing all of the debris. Ronnie Cline and his wife worked at the plant for nine years before it closed in 1986. They say it was hard losing their jobs, but now they're seeing some good come from the rubble.
"Actually, if you look and see the amount of people there, it is creating some jobs and some traffic and things in our community. They are buying, you know, you see them at the restaurants, some of the motels and things like that. You see them staying in some of those places. So we're starting to reap a little bit of benefits from that," said Ronnie Cline, worked at plant for 9 years.
The city says they are taking the demolition process slowly and carefully to ensure everyone's safety. Project managers expect to be complete with the demolition by the end of this year.
