Barton County Memorial Hospital New Children's Crash Cart
LAMAR, MO.--- "Time is the essence in any kind of emergency, but especially a pediatric emergency," said Pat Daniel, Barton County Memorial Hospital Director of Surgery.
Barton County Memorial Hospital is now offering a range of pediatric surgery services. Workers say a crash cart is essential to make sure those procedures are safe.
"It's something we're glad to have. We hope we never have to open the drawers and use it, but it's something you need when you do pediatric patients," said Marlys Buckner, BCMH Director of Nurses.
The cart provides ready-to-go emergency packages for all circumstances. That includes everything from I.V.'s, oxygen and respiratory assistance to intubation tubes.
"Set up specifically for children according to weight and it's color coded to weight. It's very easy to use, very fast and efficient," said Buckner.
Although Children's Miracle Network Hospital in Joplin donated the expensive cart, C.M.N. leaders credit the community for supporting local fundraisers.
"In turn, that money comes back to Children's Miracle Network and we can do things like this for their local community. So that's a great way to show how all the donations that are made local to Children's Miracle Network stay local helping kids in their area," said Heather Lesmeister, Program Director of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
Barton County Hospital is performing more ear, nose and throat surgeries as well as orthopedic and general surgeries for children. The cart has supplies for patients ranging from infants to children up to 65 pounds.
