Area Medical Center Receives New Bone Density Machine
NEVADA, MO.--- After several months without a bone mineral density scanner, doctors are able to provide the resource again for their patients. The machine measures the density of minerals in your bones, such as calcium, by using a computed tomography CAT scan. That information is used to estimate the strength of your bones and used to diagnose women 65 and older with osteoporosis.
"We want to know what our bone density is early on in the game, so we can use the methods available to the doctors today to help improve your bone marrow density," said Heather Meisenheimer, N.R.M.C. Diagnostic Imaging.
She says you can take steps to increase your bone strength and reduce your chances of having a fracture if it's not too late.
