JOPLIN, MO.--- An AARP driving safety program was held today at the Freeman Health Business Center to inform seniors on the current rules of the road. Today's driving environment has become more challenging, and the program showed the seniors defensive driving techniques and how to operate a vehicle safely.

"If individuals are driving safer for longer, then our roadways are safer. And if individuals are able to drive longer, then you know, they're less reliant on their family and friends," said Jamie Gillmore, Freeman Volunteer and Senior Services Coordinator.

AARP Driving Safety Program participants also learned how to address changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. The group says taking the time to refresh driving skills, will help seniors become more independent drivers.
