JOPLIN, MO.--- Joplin's Catholic community is celebrating National Catholic School Week. Students and administrators in Joplin's area Catholic schools observe the week with Masses. They also have student, teacher, and parent appreciation day. The events allow the community to focus on the importance of Catholic education.  McAuley Catholic School leaders say each year has a different theme.

"This year it has to do with faith, it also has to do with knowledge, and it has to do with community. Those aspects are very, very important to our school and they're very important to our faith in terms of our Catholic identity," said Gene Koester, McAuley Catholic High School Principal.

Catholic schools have been celebrating National Catholic Schools Week for 40 years.
