Everett Kelly - A Hero's Welcome
My name is Everett Kelly. I served in the US Marine Corps from January 1965 until January of 1971. I was a Sergeant (E-5) when I got out to the Marine Corps. I joined the Marine Corps on my 17th Birthday.  I had 2 tours of duty in Vietnam March 1966- October 1966 with Co A, 1st Bn, 5th Regiment, 1st Marine Division; and from December 1969 until January 1971 with H&S Co, 2nd Bn,  7th Marine Regiment and H & S Co, 1st Bn, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. I was wounded on 24 May 1966 again on 23 July 1966, for which I received two Purple Hearts Medals. I served with Co C, Recon Bn, 2nd Marine Division and with Marine Barracks, Naples Italy (where i met and married my wife of 45 years).

After getting out of the Marine Corps I could not find a job anywhere and when my daughter got sick I needed health care fast, so I  joined the Army in February 1071.  I figured the Marine Corps would send me back a time to Vietnam and I wanted to spend some time with my family.  In the Army I was assigned to Military Police and latter applied for and was accepted into US Army Criminal Investigation Command.  With the exception of short time spent at Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Leonard Wood, MO, my entire time in the Army was spent in Europe.  In January 1987 I retired from Army with rank of Chief Warrant Officer - 3 (CWO-3)

Awards include 2 Purple Hearts; Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal;Combat Action Ribbon;Presidential Unit Citation; Navy Unit Citation; 2 Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals; 2 Army Good Conduct Medals;Marine Security Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; 6 Overseas Service Ribbons; National Defense Service Medal; Non-Commissioned Professional Development Ribbon; Vietnam Service Medal with 1 silver star: Vietnam Campaign Medal with device; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame; Republic of Vietnam Civic Action Color 1st Class.

Since retiring from the service I have worked as a counselor with VA Vet Center system and as a deputy sheriff. Currently retired.
