Grand Lake O' The Cherokees

The Grand Lake is located on the Grand (Neosho) River in northeastern Oklahoma. As a chosen area of possible hydroelectric power generation, the first part of this project was building Pensacola Dam. Th construction began in 1938, and ran to 1940. After completion, there was a a 60,000 acre artificial reservoir, which came to be the Grand Lake O' The Cherokees.
The lake quickly grew into a major tourist destination, as many different shows, shopping venues, concerts, and more began to pop up in the surrounding areas. Soon, booming businesses opened locally, lodges and campgrounds, both simple and luxurious, opened to those who wished to stay while traveling and vacationing.
