What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available, and focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and their effects on general health. Often used to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, Chiropractic care utilizes a broad range of techniques, including manual adjustment, electrical muscular stimulation, and massage, to locate, analyze and gently correct vertebral misalignments in the spine. Chiropractic is a natural method of healing that stimulates the body's communication system to work more effectively to initiate, control and coordinate the various functions of the cells, organs and systems of the body. At Carlson Chiropractic Center, our doctors practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. With a focus on prevention, our doctors are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

Chiropractic Care - Our Process

What To Expect When You Visit

Are you in pain? Does your body ache? What led you to Carlson Chiropractic Center? Was it stress? Poor posture? A sports injury? A personal injury? An auto accident?

When you visit Carlson Chiropractic Center, we will take a complete medical history, as well as conduct physical, neurological, and orthopedic examinations, including x-rays if necessary. You will receive a careful Chiropractic structural examination, with particular attention paid to the spine. Through an assessment of your posture, examination your spine, and test of your reflexes, joint motion, and muscle strength, we will be able to locate vertebral dysfunction and to rule out specific disorders.

Your first visit typically lasts about an hour, allowing enough time to perform all of the above steps to gather medical information and evaluate them for proper diagnosis. Using the information gathered during the visit, your doctor will prescribe a set of goals for your treatment. He may also consult with you about making important lifestyle changes to improve your chances of healing faster or preventing further injury.

We offer you the opportunity to save time by completing your initial forms before your first visit to Carlson Chiropractic Center. You can download the forms by clicking HERE, fill them out and bring them with you to your visit. We look forward to helping you achieve your wellness objectives!?

Kids and Chiropractic

Why are millions of parents taking their children to chiropractors every year? Simple, because no matter how young or old you are, Chiropractic works. When it comes to children and Chiropractic care, consider this, the first stress placed on a child’s spinal column is during the birthing process. Follow that up with the falls, bumps and bruises that come from learning to walk and a multitude of childhood mishaps, sports related injuries, and postural strains, and you can see that it's never too early to start.

At Carlson Chiropractic Center, we see a lot of positive results in our younger patients, and problems like colic, headaches, ear infections, scoliosis, asthma, and even some cases of behavioral problems and bed-wetting successfully treated with Chiropractic care. In fact, a recent study showed that children under Chiropractic care suffered from fewer ear infections than those whose parents sought medical care alone.

Adjusting a child is not a difficult procedure. In fact, a child’s spine is usually much easier to adjust because they don't have the long-standing subluxations, they are more relaxed, and their muscles are not as tense. Not only are they easier to adjust, in most cases they hold their adjustments for longer periods of time.?

Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient, and in the case of children, it is a very gentle procedure. So next time you come to our office, bring your children. The few minutes you invest in your child’s spinal health today could save them needless suffering now and in the future.

Is Chiropractic Right For You?

If you want a natural, drug free approach to wellness, then Chiropractic is perfect for you. The third largest primary health care profession in the world, next to medicine and dentistry, Chiropractic is more than treatment of back pain. In fact, the benefits of Chiropractic include effective pain relief, restored freedom of movement, correction of underlying problems, a return to work and recreational activities, enhanced athletic performance, the prevention of spinal decay, and improved overall health.

Relief Care or Corrective Care

When it comes to treatment for your issues, we ask that our patients understand that often one visit will not completely “cure” you or reduce your symptoms one hundred percent. If you have moderate to severe pain, one visit may reduce your pain significantly but usually will not eliminate it. For some of our patients, the healing process can take weeks or even months. Every patient recovers at their own pace due to factors related to age, nutrition, level of activity, quality of sleep, and how the spine is supported throughout the daily routine.

Relief Care simply means that a patient decides to come for treatment only as long as it takes to get out of pain or get symptomatic relief. But the problem with that is relief care can turn into an ongoing cycle. Through a few visits, pain relief is achieved, but the underlying spinal structural problem has not been completely corrected and stabilized. So that means that the symptoms can and often do return after a period of time and then guess what, it's time to come back for another round of visits.

Corrective Care on the other hand seeks to achieve long-term stability, so that you can enjoy the benefit of a stable spine and a properly functioning neuromusculoskeletal system. With the goal focused on getting rid of the symptoms/pain while correcting the cause of the problem, corrective care can be more lasting. Once your symptoms are gone, it is important to realize that lack of pain does not equal stability. Pain relief is merely the first part of the process. Your doctor will formulate a plan specific to you, and re-evaluate based on your individual needs.

Healing is a process, and it is important to the all of us at Carlson Chiropractic Center to help you achieve your wellness objectives, and live a pain-free life to the fullest. So whether you want relief care or corrective care, let us help you get moving again today.
